They fled with only moments to spare—many animals were left behind. We must act now.
On July 29, a terrifying 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula triggered tsunami warnings across the entire Hawaiian Islands. Sirens screamed. Highways clogged with cars. Emergency shelters opened their doors.
And in the chaos—too many animals were left behind.
We’re hearing stories of dogs tied up in backyards, cats scattered in panic, and terrified animals stranded in homes now threatened by unpredictable surges. Shelters are overwhelmed. Evacuated families are desperate for updates on their beloved pets. Horses, goats, and livestock were abandoned in coastal paddocks as families fled inland.
Animals First Aid is mobilizing now—but we can’t do it without you.
We’ve done this before. Now Hawai‘i needs us.
We remember the pain in Turkey, the devastation in Morocco, and the starvation in Haiti. AFA has stood on the frontlines, delivering help when few could.
This time, we’re rushing to support Hawaiian animal shelters and disaster response teams. Our goal: deploy emergency veterinary kits, mobile clinics, food packs, collapsible cages, blankets, and field teams to assist with the flood of displaced and injured animals.
Local shelters have opened their doors to pets—but they’re running out of space, out of food, and out of time.
No animal should suffer because of a natural disaster. Not on our watch.
This is our chance to save lives. With your help, AFA will:
But we must move fast. Every hour that passes increases the risk of exposure, dehydration, and trauma.
If we raise $15,000, we can cover all emergency supply packs for the shelters in Maui, O‘ahu, and the Big Island and provide support to evacuees searching for their animals.
Hawai‘i’s animals need us now. Don’t let them face this alone.
Please, if you’ve ever wanted to make a difference in a disaster, this is the moment. Let’s show the world what compassion looks like in a time of crisis.
Together, we can be the helping hand they’re praying for.
