The calls are no longer coming from one shelter. They are coming from small, struggling shelters across Egypt—each facing desperate animals they cannot save alone.

Animals First Aid, in partnership with the Lamasat Al-Khair Foundation for Animal Care, has just received ten urgent new cases.

There is German, whose neck was torn open by a rope so deeply that veins were severed. Rahma is elderly, completely blind and suffering from cancer. Another cat’s cancerous mass has ruptured.

Sabira lay immobile after a terrible accident. Trying desperately to reach food, she wore away the flesh and bone of her feet and developed kidney failure and severe dehydration.

A starving mother was found weak and struggling to care for her puppies. Sultan, once someone’s house cat, was badly injured in an accident. Tiny Zaqrada still suffers from nerve damage and bones that never developed properly.

Then there is Tyson, abandoned in the street while paralyzed. His neurological treatment continued for nearly a year and a half.

Alongside them are the many other dogs filling the shelter and the animals reached through emergency street outreach. Every photograph represents another hungry, injured or frightened animal whose small shelter has nowhere else to turn.

This is becoming our permanent reality. Animals First Aid is increasingly serving as a survival fund for small shelters—keeping food in bowls, medicines on shelves and doors open when these rescuers are only days away from having nothing left.

But as the number of shelters relying on us rises, our emergency reserve is lower than ever.
