When Meisies was finally found, no one could believe she was still standing.

For weeks she had been alone in the bush, trapped by a cruel snare that had sliced so deeply into her leg it destroyed the very tendons a donkey needs to stand and walk.

By the time her owner reached her, the damage was devastating.

Without immediate veterinary care, Meisies would have faced unbearable suffering.

Meisies refused to give up.

Although the snare had severed all of the flexor tendons in the back of her leg—injuries that normally mean an equine can never walk again—she slowly adapted. Week after week she fought through the pain, astonishing everyone caring for her.

Today, more than seven weeks later, Meisies is alive.

She will never be able to work again.

But she can stay with the herd she loves.

She can enjoy peaceful days instead of unimaginable pain.
