For decades, The Animal House Jamaica has stood where few others could. Long before disasters made headlines, before storms and economic shocks pushed communities to the brink, this shelter was already carrying the weight of Jamaica’s forgotten animals with resilience, experience, and quiet determination.
Founded by Maureen Waller and now led by her daughter, Tasha, The Animal House is not a pop-up rescue or a short-term project. It is one of Jamaica’s longest-standing and most respected animal welfare organizations, trusted locally and internationally, and recognized by global partners for its integrity and impact. Today, that legacy is under immense strain.

Running The Animal House costs up to ±$12,000 USD every single month. These funds cover food, veterinary care, staff wages, transport, emergency interventions, and the daily survival of dozens of dogs and special-needs animals who have nowhere else to go. This is the reality behind the scenes — not polished posts or constant updates, but hard, unrelenting work done by a skeleton team with limited resources, often in crisis conditions.
Recently, storms and environmental threats came dangerously close to destroying a satellite location where over 20 animals, many with special needs, are cared for almost entirely by one person. While supporters asked for updates, the team was focused on something far more urgent: keeping animals and staff alive. When you are choosing between taking photos or evacuating dogs, there is no real choice.

The Animal House has also been working for over 18 months on a complex international airlift, navigating regulatory barriers, funding gaps, and logistical obstacles most people never see. This is the kind of work that requires credibility, patience, and deep expertise — and it is exactly why this organization is known and trusted by major animal welfare bodies in the US, UK, and Caribbean.

Transparency matters. The Animal House’s financials are publicly available on Candid. Their work has been documented over decades by independent journalists, international NGOs, and animal welfare advocates. This is not an organization asking for blind faith — it is one asking for continued partnership in the face of escalating need.

Every dollar given helps cover the real, unglamorous costs of rescue. It helps pay for transport to remote shelter locations where even a single round trip can cost $60 USD. It helps ensure staff can safely show up to work. It helps animals receive treatment, food, and protection during disasters that disproportionately affect those with no voice.

Animals First Aid is stepping forward to support The Animal House Jamaica because this is exactly the kind of organization that must not be allowed to collapse under pressure. When long-standing shelters disappear, the consequences ripple far beyond one location — animals are abandoned, communities lose vital support, and years of progress vanish overnight.

This is a call to stand with a shelter that has already given everything it has. A shelter that continues to show up even when exhausted, underfunded, and unfairly scrutinized. A shelter that does not walk away when things get hard.

Your support today helps stabilize The Animal House Jamaica. It helps protect the animals already in their care and ensures they can continue responding when the next emergency hits — because in Jamaica, as in so many places, the next crisis is never far away.

Please consider making a donation in support of this partnership. Together, Animals First Aid and The Animal House Jamaica can ensure that decades of life-saving work do not end here — and that the animals who depend on this shelter are not left behind.

If ever there was a moment to stand with those who have always stood for animals, this is it.
