This sanctuary was pushed to the brink of closure.

With no funding and no backup plan, they faced the unthinkable.

But they chose to keep going. They chose the animals.

PLEASE, help us help them!

As you know, Animals First Aid was founded for and is united by one conviction: animals deserve help, dignity, and a fighting chance to live

Our global family is built on empathy and compassion and to help places like this… places where animals suffer out of sight... places where there is no safety net... places where without help, there is simply… nothing.

Sangkhlaburi, Thailand, is one of those places.

On the edge of the jungle, just across a long wooden bridge from Myanmar, dogs and cats struggle to survive every single day. They roam dusty roads, dodging traffic. They scavenge for scraps behind markets and homes. They give birth in dark alleys, under broken structures, wherever they can hide their young.

Many are injured. Many are sick. Many are starving. Some are hit by cars and left where they fall. Some suffer infections for weeks with no treatment. Some disappear without a trace. And every day - there is another call for help. An injured dog. A litter born into danger. A life hanging in the balance.

There is no organized rescue network.  No system to respond. No reliable veterinary care (the closet veterinarian is an arduous four-hour drive).  There is no organized spay/neuter program.

EXCEPT for one place: the Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary - and clinic.

A few years ago, even that lifeline was nearly lost. An international organization - once the sanctuary and clinic’s primary source of support - suddenly withdrew, with almost no notice. Overnight, the sanctuary was pushed to the brink of closure. With no funding and no backup plan, they faced the unthinkable.

But they chose to keep going. They chose the animals.

With the help of a friend, the dedication of volunteers, and careful, determined management of every small donation, they fought their way back. Slowly. Relentlessly. One life at a time.

Even when the organization that abandoned them later tried to return, the sanctuary said, “no thank you.” They chose to stand on their own - with the support of people who truly care.

What they have accomplished is extraordinary:

  • Nearly 13,000 sterilizations - preventing untold suffering before it begins.
  • Dozens of outreach clinics in communities with no access to care.
  • Thousands of animals treated - many in desperate condition.
  • Daily feeding for street animals who would otherwise go hungry.
  • And, of course, sanctuary and eventually forever homes for many.

This is exactly why Animals First Aid exists. To find places like this. To stand beside them.
To make sure they are not alone.

The reality is that sanctuaries like this, no matter how extraordinary their work, cannot continue without help. The calls don’t stop. The injuries don’t stop. The need doesn’t stop. And without support, even the most dedicated rescuers are forced to make impossible decisions.

Your gift to AFA today will help ensure that when the next call comes - and it will (it may have as you read these words) - the Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary can answer it. With care. With treatment. With compassion. Your support with help AFA help this remarkable sanctuary in the middle of nowhere SAVE LIVES!

If you are able, please stand with us to help this amazing sanctuary and clinic today. Because for animals living on the streets and at the edge of the jungle… this place is everything.
