When we last wrote to you, we shared the story of Talia, the gentle dog learning to walk again after a terrible injury, and Vila, the brave puppy born into pain but full of fight. Your kindness helped us send urgent aid to Paws of Smederevo, where Maja and Ana care for more than a hundred rescued dogs — many injured, abandoned, or too old to survive alone.

Thanks to you, Vila was able to receive her long-overdue CT scans and X-rays, and the shelter could finally pay their vet bills in full — a first for them. But the news we’ve just received is heartbreaking: Vila’s injuries are worse than expected, and though she can still walk, her nerves may deteriorate. Nada, the paralyzed dog we’ve all followed with so much hope, has suffered a devastating setback — a post-surgery infection wiped out months of progress. She now needs costly physiotherapy and a new wheelchair to have any chance of walking again.

And as temperatures drop across Serbia, volunteers are rushing to insulate kennels with whatever materials they can find. They’re doing everything they can — but love and determination can’t fill empty bowls. The shelter faces €2,400 in urgent expenses for food, vet bills, and care this month alone.

Animals First Aid has already approved an emergency €1,000 to keep them afloat, but we must raise the remaining €1,400 immediately to ensure the dogs don’t go hungry or lose vital medical care.
